September Fly Fishing Weekend

September Fly Fishing Weekend

September 13-15, 2019

Beginner and experienced anglers, September 13-15 is fly fishing weekend at Primland. The Blue Ridge’s finest fly fishing instruction clinic is an immersive weekend feature one-on-one instruction in fly fishing and fly tackle.

Throughout the weekend, anglers will learn tactics and techniques on reading the water, tying and selecting flies, and tackle and rigging methods. Participants will begin day one working with our expert guides to create flies for stillwater fish in lakes and ponds, plus roundtable discussions on ‘matching the hatch’ and fly selection. Later that day, anglers will fish the Primland pond and receive casting instruction from our guides. Best of all, anglers will get to catch fish using their own custom-crafted flies tied during the morning session.

On the second day, anglers will learn how to ‘read’ the water and immerse themselves into the world of trout guided by our fly fishing instructors. Demonstrations will include finding likely trout hot spots and their forage, all in preparation for an afternoon of fishing in the Lower Dan River.

The final day of the clinic, anglers will fish for wild brook, rainbow and brown trout on the upper reaches of the Dan River. Guided by our instructors, anglers will apply all of the skills they learned over the weekend and depart with tested methods for perfect presentations to be successful anywhere they pursue fish on the fly.
