During this weekend, learn about the vibrant traditions of Native Americans from special guests of Cherokee descent, Jeannie “E Nah Dah” Cranford and Michael “Thunder Dancer Sees the Ground” Cranford. This weekend includes storytelling, dance, and ceremonial dress presentations, as well as hands-on workshops.

Enjoy a week of unique bird watching within the 12,000 acres of Primland in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Dr. Ashley Peele and Christine Boran will take you through the trails and introduce you to the Audubon world within Primland. You will view and learn about our native birds - raptor and wetland birds, upland game birds, accipiters and songbirds. Also enjoy a day of constructing and monitoring eastern bluebird boxes.

Dr. Ashley Peele is an avian ecologist who has spent 12 years studying wildlife conservation and management in the US and Caribbean. She became Coordinator of the 2nd Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas in late 2015 after completing her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Tulane University.

Christine Boran is a volunteer for the non-profit Virginia Bluebird Society as County Coordinator for Patrick and Floyd Counties and serves on the VBS Board of Directors. Christine established the Woolwine House Bluebird Trail.

Experiences are complimentary, donations accepted for the VBS and goes toward the VBS Grant Program. Binoculars highly recommended.

Have you ever wondered how your golf game stacks up against a PGA TOUR player? Here is your chance to find out! The first annual Primland Skills Challenge takes place Saturday, August 11, and 27-time PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions winner Jay Haas is in the field. Please join us at Primland to see how you stack up against Jay Haas, and learn a few lessons along the way!

The first Annual Primland Skills Challenge includes competition and instruction in the following:
  • Closest to the Pin (Wedge Shot)
  • Putting
  • Short Game
  • Specialty Shots
  • Bunker Play

The guest entry fee for the Skills Challenge is $200 and includes a round of golf on The Highland Course, an onsite custom fitting from Titleist, a cookout lunch and prizes for event winners. The Skills Challenge allows 15 percent off on lodging for a two night minimum. Additional prizes will awarded any player who beats Jay in the overall score or in a specific event. The first Annual Primland Skills Challenge combines the thrill of competition with the love of the outdoors. We encourage you to extend your visit to take in the entire Primland experience!

Fly Fishing Weekend

March 9 - March 11, 2018

From reading the water and selecting the fly to rigging and techniques to make the perfect presentation, these clinics will provide participants the opportunity to ask questions and get the one-on-one attention needed to be successful at the pursuit of fly fishing. Nothing is more gratifying than creating a fl y and catching a fi sh on your creation! The morning will be tying and preparing for the trout pond. The second day will be built around preparing for and fishing the lower Dan River home to rainbow, brook and brown trout. The last day will based around fishing wild trout waters and the techniques and skill sets needed to fool wild trout in a wild stream. Including some great local advice on casting under a tight tree canopy.
