The six-mile stretch of the scenic Dan River that lies adjacent to Primland is rugged, remote and home to beautiful wild trout. Guided fly-fishing is offered on a catch and release basis only for the wild brown, brook, and rainbow trout that inhabit these clear waters. For fly casters seeking less challenging Blue Ridge Mountain fishing, the broader and more forgiving Kibler Valley section of the Dan River is located nearby.

Guest property privileges include fishing at three ponds stocked with trout, bass and channel catfish. This unsupervised activity is fun for families and rental fishing equipment and bait are available at our South Gate Reception. Fish cleaning is available for those wishing to prepare their catch for dinner at their Mountain Homes. Guided fishing is generally available April through November depending on local weather and stream conditions. Ponds are open for use year-round.

Our Primland Outfitters Shop, located in the South Gate Reception, is stocked with flies and other fishing equipment. Outfitting, rod rental and licenses are also available. Fly-casting and on-stream fishing lessons by Orvis-trained guides can be arranged with notice by calling 276-222-3800.
